Preparing to move
ALC has begun preparations in readiness for relocating to new premises in mid-2025. This is particularly apparent in the library. The collection of items, accumulated over 101 years of operating from this site, comprises approximately 94,000 books and 14,000 bound volumes of periodicals. It is being downsized under the watchful eye of several knowledgeable experts.
Sorting through a collection this large is no mean feat. ALC’s Library Collection Management Policy provides guidelines to ensure that items that are removed from the collection fit specific criteria. The resources that are being culled are either redundant, damaged or duplicated items.
It’s important to note that the rare and special book collections are not under review and will remain untouched.
Items that have been identified for deselection are displayed in the library foyer for a number of weeks prior to being disposed of and people are free to come and take deselected items that are of interest to them. The library remains open for business Tuesday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm during Semesters and Tuesday to Friday 9:00 am – 4.00 pm during Semester breaks and holidays.
The ALC library continues to be a specialist theological collection which exists to serve the lifelong learning and research needs of the LCANZ and its regional and global partners. To this end the collection policy also outlines the acquisition guidelines which support ALC’s coursework and research programs going forward.
