‘Worship’ the focus of ALC’s recent intensive

ALC’s learning model sees students access their classes online from where they live and complete their fieldwork in their home congregation. Where possible, students are also given the opportunity to gather together for a week or two of intensive learning throughout the year.

Students from Queensland, Tasmania, Adelaide and Vietnam attended ALC’s recent ‘Christian Liturgy and Church Rites’ intensive (a Greek intensive was held earlier this year) which was hosted by St Petri congregation in the Barossa Valley from 19-24 August.  The program, which included sessions run by a wide range of presenters including ALC staff, the SA/NT District Bishop and the National Bishop, active and retired pastors, and consultants from the LCANZ’s Commission on Worship, included the opportunity for students to put into practise their learnings.

The intensive ended with a workshop on the Saturday which was open for anyone to attend. Over 70 people travelled from across the state to participate and electives on offer included: Lay Reading Preaching, Children’s Talk Preparations, Bible Reading, Ushering, Digital Worship and Congregational Song.

Feedback from the workshop was positive, with people appreciating the practical nature of the content, the opportunity to focus on areas of worship that are often taken for granted and the opportunity to exchange ideas and learn from other’s experiences.

ALC would like to thank Pastor Adrian Kitson and the team at St Petri (in particular the ladies who catered) for hosting the intensive and for their kind hospitality. Special thanks also to those who presented throughout the week and to the number of active and retired pastors within the Barossa Light Zone who willingly gave up their time to meet with the students and share their wisdom and stories about leading worship. Overall, it was a very enjoyable week.
