The Graduate Certificate in Leadership (GCL) provides an opportunity for students to consider the theory and practice of leadership as it applies to their own context. It develops skills required for effective leadership including self-awareness, communication, theological reflection and research.

ALC works in conjunction with the Uniting College for Leadership and Theology (UCLT) to deliver this award and is particularly involved in the delivery of leadership units for teachers in Lutheran schools and early childhood services.

Course outcomes

Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Leadership

  • Analyse and synthesise relevant information and concepts that may include perspectives from religious beliefs and spiritual traditions.
  • ​Articulate specialised knowledge of leadership theories and frameworks that may include perspectives from religious beliefs and spiritual traditions to inform leadership practice in complex contexts.
  • Communicate, both orally and in writing, leadership ideas and decisions in logical, relevant ways.
  • Critically reflect on and respond appropriately to theological, religious, social, cultural, ethical and / or sustainability issues from a leadership perspective.
  • Participate, contribute, and actively collaborate with other professionals to facilitate healthy organisational development and transformation.

 

The Graduate Certificate in Leadership is the equivalent of one full time semester (72 points). 

General Program

The Graduate Certificate in Leadership is delivered as a partnership between ALC and Uniting College for Leadership and Theology (UCLT). It consists of two 12-point core units delivered by UCLT and 48 points of elective units. Students wishing to use the GCL for accreditation as a leader in a Lutheran School will complete ALC electives as directed by Lutheran Education Australia. Other students may choose to include electives delivered by other University of Divinity colleges.

Entry requirements

  • Successful completion of an undergraduate degree or an approved equivalent, or
  • a minimum of five years of relevant work experience or relevant professional attainment to a standard recognised by the Academic Board.
