Connect with a student

ALC has a diverse group of students who are on a pastoral ministry journey. This month we meet Sarah Hoff-Zweck from the Queensland District.

Sarah has spent the past 25 years teaching in Lutheran and Christian schools, while raising two teenage sons with her husband. Her ministry journey is grounded in a deep love for young people and a passion for walking alongside them as they discern their purpose and calling. Sarah is currently serving as a Lutheran Youth Queensland Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP) candidate, while undertaking a Graduate Diploma of Divinity – Pastoral Studies with ALC.

As I was discerning a call into pastoral ministry, studying at Australian Lutheran College became both a faithful step forward and a place of spiritual formation. It was an opportunity to prayerfully explore what God was stirring in my life and to grow in understanding, trust and readiness to serve.

My experience at ALC has been transformative. It has been more than academic study; it has been a spiritual turning point. In the rhythm of learning, prayer and reflection, I have encountered God’s presence in new and life-giving ways. The community has supported me in discovering that ministry is not about perfection, but about openness allowing God’s Word to shape me, His Spirit to guide me and His people to walk alongside me.

Studying at ALC has deepened my understanding of pastoral ministry as creating spaces of grace for others. It has equipped me to walk alongside young people as they discern their vocation, and to support communities in nurturing faith and purpose. Personally, I have learnt that courage often looks like surrender; letting go and trusting in God’s grace to shape my life and calling.

Finding your true calling is not about striving, but about resting in God’s presence and listening to His invitation. ALC provides a space where you can grow, discern and be formed for ministry within a supportive and faithful community. If you feel even the smallest nudge toward ministry, I encourage you to step forward in faith. God has already gone before you, and in His grace, He will lead you into the future He has prepared.
