Physical access

Library staff are committed to doing everything possible to provide access to library resources, particularly for people with disabilities. Contact us in advance if you plan to visit. We look forward to answering your questions and assisting you.

Access to the library

See library location for a map.

Parking

Enter from Ward Street. There are parking places reserved for drivers with disabilities, alongside the west side of the library. Unhindered paved access from these parking areas is provided to the north side of the library (the main entrance).

Wheelchairs

The main entrance to the library is to the north and there is a wheelchair ramp. Within the library, all areas on the ground floor are accessible, including the service desk, the 24/7 study area, new book collections, and the Main Collection sequence A–G. Most wheelchairs will fit between the aisles in the book stacks. Library staff will help you retrieve books on out-of-reach shelves or on the first floor (Main Collection sequence H–Z).

Lifts

Due to the heritage nature of the building, there is no lift to the first floor, but access to the catalogue is on the ground floor (via computers in the 24/7 study area) and staff will be happy to fetch resources from bookshelves on the first floor as required.

Restrooms

All restrooms are located on the ground floor and are accessible 24/7.

Emergency exits

In an emergency, library users may leave either via the north exit or via the west exit. Note that only the north exit has a wheel chair ramp.
