Connect with a student
This month we meet Andrew Njau from the NSW/ACT District. Andrew is enrolled in a Diploma of Ministry with ALC while also completing Discover – a program developed to assist potential candidates to discern God’s call into ordained ministry. (During Discover, students complete one full year of academic study - usually a Diploma in Theology and combine this with practical ministry and personal reflection in a congregational setting.)
I enrolled in study because I felt that ALC could provide the guidance and resources I needed to help discern how I might prepare to best serve both my church (Newcastle Lifeway Lutheran Church, NSW) and community.
Throughout my three semesters at ALC, it has been an eye-opener to see how deeply Lutherans are committed to serving both Christian believers and non-Christians, and how they embrace interfaith interaction. This approach to universal service said a lot to me, as I was keen to see how I could acquire the knowledge and skills to reach out to the community at large without boundaries. The academic integration of historical theology with the realities of our contemporary world has provided me with practical and enduring lessons on faith and society.
If one is looking for a theological institution to help, support, and guide them in discerning their ministry pathway, ALC is the way to go.
Interested in finding out more about study at ALC? Online information sessions will be held on 11 November at 4.30pm and on 10 December at 3.00pm. To register for a session, email: enquiries@alc.edu.au and a Zoom link will be provided. Enrolments for 2027 open in November.
