Library hosts art exhibition as part of SALA

In conjunction with the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) festival, ALC Library is hosting an exhibition of works by artist, Helen Sherriff. These works will be on show throughout August during library opening hours: 8.30am-4.00pm.

Helen Sherriff is an experienced, award-winning artist who graduated with Honours in Visual Art (University of South Australia, 2013) but her art career began as a commercial artist in 1969. Teaching art, community artwork, murals, solo and group exhibitions followed. Her techniques and traditions include painting, woodcarving, textiles, and iconography. ‘I use old, often broken things, repurposed and redirected, as lives can be. The original brokenness works alongside the newness, adding strength. My art making has helped me to see how spiritual meaning is encased in the material world.’

This exhibition shows a selection of paintings from 1990 to the present, depicting people Helen has met, as well as depictions of imagined Biblical characters.

Her pictured work Ponder features Helen’s son - always a contemplator of the small and great miracles of Creation - in Adelaide’s park lands. Reflections on faith and spirituality are a thread throughout Helen’s body of work.
