Winter intensives held in Adelaide

Over the past fortnight, ALC has run a series of intensive learning opportunities from LCA Church House in Adelaide. In total, 28 individuals including ALC students and members of the wider LCA community, participated in the various workshops either for credit or for personal development: Introduction to Christian Mission led by Dr Tania Nelson; Moral Theology led by emeritus lecturer, Dr Jeff Silcock in conjunction with Rev Matthew Bishop and Dr Merryn Ruwoldt; and Coaching and Mentoring led by Dr Albert Haddad.

Reflecting on the recent intensives, Principal Tim Stringer stressed the value of face-to-face learning within ALC's distributed model.

‘Gathering students together several times a year enables deep focused learning to occur away from the distractions of everyday life and helps to strengthen relationships already formed through online engagement.’

‘Feedback from those attending the Adelaide intensives was encouraging and students – especially those who had attended training at the old North Adelaide campus – were appreciative of the new facilities located within Church House.’

‘It was particularly pleasing to see a cohort of pastors from the Victorian/Tasmanian District attend the Coaching and Mentoring workshop as part of their professional development, with the view to sharing their learnings with others in their District.’

Bringing students together at venues around Australia is a costly but valuable exercise, with ALC covering the travel and accommodation costs for theology and ministry students.
