Chapel space decommissioned ahead of move
In preparation for leaving the North Adelaide campus, ALC’s chapel space was decommissioned on Friday 2 May. (This chapel space had been utilised as the worship space on campus since it was consecrated on 22 July 2002. Prior to this, the community worshipped in the Refectory and prior to that, the chapel was located upstairs in Hebart Hall.)
The final service, led by ALC lecturer Pastor Matthew Bishop, was an intimate occasion attended by members of the ALC Board, staff and students – both past and present, and representatives of ALC’s Women’s Auxiliary and Lutheran Men of Australia.
Principal, Pastor Tim Stringer, preached on Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, ‘There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens…'. During the address, Pastor Stringer referred to the fact that ALC is facing the end of an era and acknowledged the grief that accompanies the change that this brings. He also reminded those present, that God is with us and knows his plans for us and that things happen in “God’s time,” often whether we are ready for it or not.
The service concluded with the rite of decommissioning, led by District Bishop, Andrew Brook.
Worship on campus has since transferred to an online format and will continue this way until staff move into the Frome Street building later in the year.
