Winter intensives prove popular
ALC's latest series of intensives was held at St John's Lutheran Church, Southgate from 26 June to 7 July. Overall, 23 students from around Australia and New Zealand attended one or more of the intensives on offer, which included Introduction to Christian Mission led by Dr Tania Nelson, Preaching the Word led by ALC Principal Dr Tim Stringer and Moral Theology led by Rev Richard Haar.
The students, who will continue to meet online for classes throughout the year, were especially appreciative of the opportunity to spend quality time learning together and building relationships, commenting that the course content was both thought provoking and challenging, and enabled lots of rich learning.
Those teaching during the 12 day event described the atmosphere as both joyful and uplifting.
Dr Stringer said, ‘Given that the majority of these students are preparing for service in the church, it was especially encouraging to see them interacting respectfully during their time together and being accepting of each other’s perspectives and contribution. It was further heartening to hear that students – especially the women in the group - felt safe participating in discussions and putting their learning into practice.’
Many thanks to the St John’s congregation and their pastor James Winderlich, for their efforts in hosting the intensives.
Christian liturgy and church rites will be the focus of the next intensive, which will be held online in October. To find out more email enquiries@alc.edu.au.
